Following the Nikah, the pair typically hosts a Walima, that is a banquet celebrating the marriage. This event will not be compulsory but is extremely advised like a Sunnah (tradition) of the Prophet Muhammad. The Walima can occur straight away following the Nikah ceremony or on the later on date.
